Hot pads and oven mitts are great, but sometimes can be overkill when all you need to do is protect your hand while holding a hot pan or pot handle. Time to downsize with a slip-on hot handle sleeve.
An oven mitt has an excellent surface for embellishment. We chose a Flourish Alphabet Monogram to personalize ours, joking how we could embroider “L” on one hand, “R” on the other — just in case you get confused when baking!

Pretty patchwork with pie-shaped wedges spins into a full circle. There are free downloadable patterns for the front wedges and the back circle. A Janome Circular Sewing Attachment gave us those perfect concentric quilting circles.
Hot pads provide a great small surface to experiment with embellishment. Since they’ll be around a heat source, you can’t go wild, but subtle touches in natural fibers are so pretty. We used ribbon + decorative stitching.
Pull out some pretty fabrics from your scrap stash and blend them together into a happy mix of pattern and color. Each mitt uses up to four different fabrics. They’d make a great gift for wedding shower season!
