Structured Waist Pack

They used to be called “fanny packs” – but who wants to focus on their fanny?! Our S4H design is a Waist Pack – more flexible and  better looking.

This structured pack has a bit of depth (2”) and several compartments for all your necessities. Of course, you also get that important hands-free ability when you’re on-the go. It’s available now in our S4H Etsy Shop.

Throughout the construction, you’ll learn and/or put into practice a lot of great techniques: from applying an overlaid zipper to creating a zippered all-around sidewall to inserting flat panels into a loop. Each of these techniques – and many others – are explained thoroughly.

That’s the mark of a S4H project: we go the extra mile to make sure you can sew with success and end up with a project you’re proud to keep for yourself or give as a gift. Even if you are new to sewing, don’t be afraid to give this professional pouch a try; sewing in 3D is addicting! Our ePattern instructions have been specially prepared to include extra-detailed steps and lots of explanatory photos to show fusing, cutting, stitching, and assembling.

There’s a full pattern to download with all the pieces required for the Waist Pack, including color-coded markings for placement of the pockets, flanges, D-ring, and lanyard. Along with the full pattern, we’ve included links to additional free technique tutorials on the main S4H site. If you are new to any of the techniques used, these step-by-step tutorials are helpful to review before starting the project.

The front zippered pocket, with its cool vertical opening, has been sized to fit even today’s largest mobile phones, although you could also drop your phone into the generous center compartment, which features its own patch pocket as well as a handy swivel clip on a leather lanyard.

We chose a linen blend for the exterior with a standard quilting cotton for the lining and accents. Several different interfacing layers allow you to get the perfect soft stability while maintaining limited bulk in the seam allowances.

The Structured Waist Pack finishes at approximately 9½” wide x 5½” high x 2″ deep.

There are three PDF files included in this $5.95 Etsy Shop purchase. As a digital download, we understand you are providing the paper and ink and so have included flexible printing alternatives. The first file contains all the steps plus all the full color instructional photos; it’s a great option for viewing on your computer or other digital device to fully understand the construction process. The second file is condensed to black and white with just the steps (no photos) to make printing even more efficient. The third file contains the pattern pieces. All three files can be printed on either US Letter paper or A4 paper, using Adobe Acrobat Reader (a free program). No fabric or supplies are included.
