Rainbow Charm Square Patchwork Half Apron

This cute half apron is perfect for someone new to sewing and/or patchwork. Already a pro? It’s a fast, fun project that lets your skills shine. A colorful blend of solid pastel charm squares gives the apron its rainbow blend of pinks, yellows, greens, blues, and purples.

As a beautiful backdrop to the colorful rainbow, we combined the solid color patchwork with a coordinating print fabric for the apron’s full skirt lining, as well as the pocket flaps, and the waistband/ties.

Those waistband and ties are surprisingly easy to make, but give the apron a very professional look, allowing the wearer to get a snug fit at the natural waist or a looser fit across the hips.

Decorative stitching accents add texture along the waistband as well as the pocket flaps. We used a variegated thread; it’s always fun to experiment with thread colors and weights – you could even try a metallic.

This half apron is a very lightweight design. Both the patchwork front panel and the print lining panel are single layers. There is just a bit of lightweight interfacing in the waistband and pockets, giving those areas a crisp finish.

Speaking of those clever pockets, step-by-step instructions are included and there’s a pattern download for the pocket flap. You’ll love how simple it is to inset each pocket into the rows of patchwork. In fact, all the ePattern instructions have been prepared to include extra-detailed steps and lots of explanatory photos to show layout, stitching, and assembly.

You can use any sewing machine and a standard presser foot to create the entire project, however, we do include details about which specialty presser feet we used throughout to keep the seams straight and decorative stitching even.

The second file is condensed to black and white with just the steps (no photos) to make printing even more efficient. The third file is the pocket flap pattern. All three files can be printed on either US Letter paper or A4 paper, using Adobe Acrobat Reader (a free program). No fabric or supplies are included.
