This year, we have a new series we’ve started with our friends at Free Spirit Fabrics. We call it: Artist Trios. In the coming months, you’ll get the chance to 1) meet some fabulous Free Spirit designers, 2) try out a special project each will create just for Sew4Home, and 3) maybe win some of their gorgeous fabrics. Easy and fun as 1-2-3. Earlier this week, we introduced you to our debut Artist, Jenean Morrison. Today, she shares her original patchwork pillow pattern.

Jenean’s latest collection, due in stores and online this month, is Silent Cinema, and she created her patchwork pillows using this beautiful new line. Better still, she shows you three different color combinations, which just proves what a versatile design it is.

We fell in love, or perhaps it would be more theatrically appropriate to say we swooned over the softly nostalgic designs of Silent Cinema. Jenean’s fabric always has the unique ability to be densely layered with intricate patterns yet still feel fresh, crisp and clean. Because she is a painter as well as a surface designer, you can feel the artist’s mixing palette in her color combinations. Each hue is a custom fusion of harmonious shades. Is it pink with a dash of orange or orange with a wash of pink? Whatever her secret, the result is a medley that feels fresh and new yet old and familiar… like seeing your best friend in a gorgeous new outfit.

Jenean created her Guest Tutorial as a .pdf file. It includes beautiful and detailed drawings that make the piecing steps so easy to follow (I think I might have to hire her for S4H!).

Click the image below to download. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is a free program. Please be aware that this .pdf is quite large (3.0MB), because of all those above-mentioned beautifully detailed drawings. So please be patient with the download process.
