The detailed steps and photos within the ePattern take you through tips for sewing thick layers, how to create wide flat felled seams, topstitching, sewing an X-Box to secure the straps and handles, finishing the interior seam allowances with bias binding, and insetting a flat base panel.

The natural canvas featured in our sample is a #10 Duck Canvas. It’s a tough substrate that works well as a single layer, but we also wanted it to be pliable enough to function as an easy-to-carry tote. To soften the fabric, we pre-washed the canvas twice with a fabric softener, tumble dried, and ironed it prior to cutting all the pieces. The look of washed canvas is a very fashionable finish.

There are two PDF files included in this $5.75 purchase. As a digital download, we understand you are providing the paper and ink and so have included flexible printing alternatives. The first file contains all the steps plus all the full color instructional photos; it’s a great option for viewing on your computer or other digital device to fully understand the construction process. The second file is condensed to black and white with just the steps (no photos) to make printing even more efficient. Both files can be printed on either US Letter paper or A4 paper, using Adobe Acrobat Reader (a free program). No fabric or supplies are included.
